New Hire Orientation Program

TiPS and SERVE SAFE Training
Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) training is not mandated by the state of California. However, many insurance companies have made this training mandatory for their insured establishments. Not only does the training help promote responsible sales, but it also shows how a business can prevent liability as well as reducing their insurance rates. The following Southern California cities and counties may still have requirements for Training. Restaurants should check with their local city and country offices.
CA Food Handler Training - Individuals involved in the preparation, storage or service of food in food facility must possess a California Food Handler Card. Part time employees and students must also obtain Food Handler Cards. The Food Handler must take a course and pass a test from an accredited certification organization. The Food Handler Card is valid for three (3) years from the date of issuance. The food handler shall be re-certified prior to the expiration of the card. Food handlers must obtain a valid Food Handler Card within 30 days after the hire date at a food facility. The Food Handler must take a course and pass a test from an accredited certification organization. The Food Handler Card is valid for three (3) years from the date of issuance. Food Manager (Person in Charge) Certification Under the California Health and Safety Code §113947, all food facilities that prepare, handle, or serve un-packaged foods are required to have at least one Certified Food Manager (CFM) or Person in Charge, either an owner or an employee, who has successfully passed an approved and accredited food safety certification exam. This includes restaurants, most markets, caterers, ice cream/yogurt shops, delicatessens, Bed and Breakfasts, school cafeterias, Mobile Food Facilities (e.g., hot dog carts and espresso carts), and some bars.
