Most Common Mistakes when Completing the I-9 Form

Below is a list of the most common mistakes made when completing the I-9 form:
- Use of pencil
- Use of inks other than Black or Blue
- Dates left out
- Signatures left out
- Date of Employment not filled in
- Use of White Out
- Over documentation [you list document from List A AND a Social Security Card (list C)]
- Dates are transposed (most typical with Hispanic employees since they put day/month/year vs. month/day/year)
- Date of expiration entered for a Permanent Resident Card (not necessary to have date of expiration in Section 1 – Only in Section 2)
- No tracking system for expired work authorizations
