Proactive and effective employee relations are critically important to maintaining a non-union work environment. Satisfied employees who feel as though their voices have been heard are less likely to seek out a third party. The best way to avoid unionization is to use positive employee relations techniques.
Asking employees for input creates loyalty. We suggest that your company conducts annual opinion surveys, so every employee has a chance to share their thoughts about how the company is being run. They could have valuable ideas on how to improve current operating procedures or they could point out areas that could use some modifications. Employees will appreciate that their feedback has been sought out by management which can create a more harmonious environment.
Follow up with a focus group. Employees want to know that their opinions are being heard and that their suggestions and concerns are being addressed by management. Focus groups give employees a chance to collaborate with management to discuss certain issues and collectively brainstorming possible resolutions. Through questions and dialogues, employees are free to express their ideas and suggestions and come to a conclusion about what steps need to be taken to contribute to the company’s success.
Act upon the results. It’s important to take appropriate measures after both employees and management have discussed what needs to be improved. Implementing changes and modifying areas of improvement can create a more positive work environment and can give your employees a sense of appreciation and satisfaction.
How we can help. We help employers maintain a non-union environment by conducting employee opinion surveys, employee focus groups, and offering guidance on other ways to enhance your company’s employee relations strategies.
